Mahjong Rules & Winning Hands
Mahjong is typically played with four players, and the goal is to complete a winning hand before your opponents. Here’s how it works:
Starting the Game: Each player begins with 13 tiles, while the dealer starts with 14.
Turn-Based Play: Players draw and discard tiles in turns, aiming to complete a full hand.
Winning: The first player to form a legal hand of four sets and one pair calls “Mahjong!” and wins.
Draw: If no one wins before all tiles are used, the game ends in a draw.
Tile Combinations & Their Significance
To win, you must build these combinations:
Pong (Triplet): Three identical tiles (e.g., three 7-bamboo tiles).
Chow (Sequence): Three consecutive numbers of the same suit (e.g., 3-4-5 of circles).
Kong (Quadruplet): Four identical tiles, earning an extra turn.
Pair: Two matching tiles (e.g., two 2-character tiles).
Scoring & Winning Rewards
After declaring “Mahjong,” your score is determined by your hand’s complexity. The stronger your combinations, the higher your rewards. The player with the most valuable hand wins the game!
