Mahjong Scoring System – Master the Art of Earning Points

Mahjong scoring varies depending on the game version, but the core idea remains the same: the more strategic and intricate your hand, the more points you earn. Understanding how points are awarded can give you a competitive edge!

Basic Scoring Rules

Standard Win – A basic winning hand is worth 10 points.

Pong of Dragons or Winds – Forming a Pong (three identical tiles) with dragons or wind tiles earns 10-20 points, depending on the set.

Pure Suit Combination – A hand made entirely of tiles from the same suit (e.g., all bamboo or all circles) is worth 40-80 points.

Secret Hands – Special hands, such as those composed entirely of Pongs, carry high value, starting at 50 points or more.

Self-Drawn Victory – If you draw your winning tile yourself instead of claiming a discarded tile, your total score doubles (2x multiplier).

Winning & Score Distribution

When a player declares “Mahjong”, the remaining players must either pay points to the winner or follow the game’s specific betting system. While scoring rules may slightly differ across Mahjong variations, the ultimate goal remains the same: the player with the strongest hand or the first to complete a valid combination wins the game!

By mastering the scoring system, you’ll sharpen your strategy, increase your earnings, and climb the leaderboard. Keep playing, refining your skills, and aiming for victory!
